Dobermans Can Be Problematic For Those With Dog Allergies
Doberman’s are generally known as intelligent and obedient guard dogs. They are loyal and very protective of their owners. If you are allergic to dogs though, the Doberman Pinscher is not the best of dog breeds to select as a pet. The Doberman can cause a problem to those that suffer from dog allergies because their skin coat produces a lot of dander, the substance that aggravates those who suffer from dog allergies. It’s the dander rather that the dog hair which causes people to have allergic reactions.
Doberman Pinscher Common Health Problems
The most serious problem that Doberman Pinschers face today is heart disease (cardiomyopathy) which can sometimes cause Dobermans to unexpectedly and suddenly die. Due to that common problem for their breed, it’s recommended that you test your Doberman annually for early detection of heart disease so the problem can be treated early. Other heart problems that Dobermans can face include septal defects, pulmonic stenosis, valve disease, and other related problems. Unfortunately, the heart is the common hereditary problem for this dog breed. If you’re looking into getting a Doberman, make sure to find a reputable breeder and question them about the parents health.
Some Doberman’s can also be affected by Wobbler’s syndrome, which is a disease of the neck vertebrae. This syndrome is more common to Great Danes than it is to Dobermans however. Hip dyslpasia is another health concern that affects Doberman Pinschers. However, this is a very common problem for many dog breeds and usually does not affect a dog until they are much older. Only a small percentage of Dobermans studied were affected by hip dysplasia, which is a very good sign considering their size.
